On track for best month yet

It appears our daily web traffic reports are transmitting once again and I am happy to report that October is on track to be our best month yet. Andrew says we are averaging more than 30,000 uniques a day, including the lower traffic weekends.

Yesterday Fark picked up two stories; one about a woman who hid drugs in an interesting place and the other a simple press release about a squash growing program at UNH. Beth submitted both of these stories to Fark.

Many readers also were interested in the UNH student who died in a car crash as well as the opening of Christmas Tree Shops.

Top gallery was the USS New Hampshire Submarine.

Solid traffic Sunday and Monday

Sunday and Monday had 28,870 and 28,915 respectively.

The Sunday traffic was due to a Fark pickup of "Trooper nodded off before hitting 2 bicyclists," while the Monday traffic appeared to be almost all local.

Top story Monday was Karen's look at whether the city's proposed bar ban plan is legal. Karen also deservs kudos for promoting Anne Mozingo's Sarah Palin blog on the parenting site that now has more than 70 comments on it.

Top photo gallery was Portsmouth Criterium.

Our average month to date is 27,461. If you exclude the one day our traffic tanked because of technical difficulties we are over our 28,000 daily goal.

As we enter the last quarter of this year let's all be thinking of ways to grow traffic another 30 percent in 2009.

51,317 uniques, thanks Adam.

Uniques 51,317 and page views 197,394
Great numbers yesterday thanks to Adam's story "She won't budge" about the 90-year-old woman standing in the way of development on the old Yoken's land.

First, Adam went, knocked on her door and got the story.

Then Don got a great photo with the woman's shotgun in the background.

Finally, Adam submitted the story to Fark whose readers had a thoughtful (and of course funny) debate about the story.

The result 32,137 uniques for that story alone. The photo zoom with the story brought in another 3,300.

It's these types of individual extra efforts that really make a difference.

Farked twice in a day, plus the bachelorette

Yesterday we had monster traffic with both the butt crack story and the firewood in short supply stories picked up by Fark.

Readers submitted the following funny headlines to Fark:
"Firewood in short supply. It doesn't grow on trees, you know" and "If the cops write on your ticket that they saw six inches of plumber's crack in the back and pubes in the front, you might be wearing your pants too low"

Gina Carbone's three bachlorette stories brought in more than 10,000 page views to our site via Google. Search for Max Rome brought in 4,700 page views.

Photos of the week June 23-29 also did unusually well with 12,000-plus page views

Total traffic for July 1 47,179 uniques and 195,406 page views. Now that's how to start a month!

Uniques 30,699, Page views 156,077

Our upward month over month trend continues as the first 30 days of June beat first 30 days of May with 774,759 uniques versus 760,972. Our May total, with one extra day, was slightly better at 787,193.

In a year over year comparison we had a tough fight on our hands as last June Susan Nolan's Russian counterfeit story was picked up by Drudge and got 167,000 page views on its first day and 60,000 the next. Still we came within 25,000 of last year's record setting number. All in all a very solid effort in June.

We are off to a good start in July with Fark picking up Beth's illegal butt crack story. Look for those numbers tomorrow.
